Merge People activity in Lead Activity log

Hi,

Recently, we have noticed that some leads' activities show the "Merge People" option, even though the leads haven't been merged. It appears that they have simply updated the form with the same email address.

May I know the reason why it occurs?

You’re seeing the merge of an Anonymous record with a standard (Known) record.

Yes, the lead is anonymous, but I'm curious about the recurring appearance of the "Merge People" option. I've noticed it appearing almost four times within this month.

The lead you’re looking at is not Anonymous.

An Anonymous lead (identified by its Munchkin cookie) is merged into an existing Known lead when they fill out a form or follow a tracked email link, or when a custom/commercial app uses the REST API to perform the same action.

Hi!! We encountered the same issue today. A prospect said he filled up the sales form but didn't get any response from our sales. We looked into the activity log and noticed there wasn't any form fillout activity. It only showed that he visited the contact us page and then had a "merge people" activity log. Could this be that "Merge People" somehow erased the true form fillout activity and potentially caused us to lose the leads?

No, that’s not possible. Activities are never erased (aside from the automatic activity aging, which is a different matter).

If you’re sure you don’t have a filter applied to the view (which would hide the Filled Out Form activity), my guess is you have some custom JS that’s causing the form post to fail. We’d need to see the LP to look into that.

Are you asking about time-based merge activity on the same record? Anonymous activities are automatically merged once the lead is identified—for example, after a web form submission.
