I haven't seen anyone else with this issue in discussions so wanted to get some advice!
Current Goal - Create campaigns under events in marketo with matching identifiable names to the salesforce campaign we create at the same time for better matching. (we do not use the salesforce campaign sync).
We currently have Marketo setup where we may have multiple campaigns on an event/program. If we have 4 campaigns on one event, we currently create a Salesforce campaign, use the ID in the flow steps as well as add a flow step to add to SF campaign.
When we use the campaign naming convention recommendations for better cloning of for instance 01-Send Email, 02-Opened, 03-Clicked - we cannot identify those campaigns and tie them back to original event to group in salesforce for reporting.
My question is should we start using more descriptive campaign names in marketo so that we can tie them to the salesforce campaign we created for them? Better reporting seems to outweigh being able to easily clone campaign names....or am I missing something bigger?
For example - if we create a webinar event named WBN - YYYY-MM-DD - "Name of Webinar" and we have three campaign stages for the event - Registered, Attended, Requested Demo - instead of naming the campaign "01-Registered" (that we can't tie back to the salesforce campaign) could we name the first campaign "WBN - YYYY-MM-DD - Name of Webinar-Registered," the second campaign "WBN - YYYY-MM-DD - Name of Webinar-Attended," and the third campaign "WBN - YYYY-MM-DD - Name of Webinar-Requested Demo,"
Wondering what the downside of this is?
Let's backtrack a bit - why don't you map the SFDC Campaign with the Marketo program and use campaign statuses instead of creating and managing different SFDC campaigns for a single Marketo program?
Ideally, SFDC campaigns are mapped with the Marketo program and not with the Marketo campaigns within the program. With that being said - you'd want to have both (Marketo program and SFDC campaign) synced with each other either via the native Marketo program- SFDC campaign sync or by syncing the status and members via the SFDC Campaign flow steps in Marketo (via campaigns). IMO, ,apping SFDC campaigns at the Marketo program level, and updating the campaign status values (just like you'd update the Marketo program chanel status) would make this a lot easier and you'd have all the reporting/analytics data too
