Lead Clicked Link in Email - That Link isn't in the Email

We recently sent a product launch email. Within that email was a CTA leading to a factsheet for the new product. When I created a smart list to get a deeper look at click activity, two leads show as having clicked a link to a different product's factsheet.

I triple-checked that the launch email did indeed have the correct files linked. The link that Marketo is claiming these leads clicked - it is not active at this time. It is to an old file.

Any idea why I'm getting this activity? I am 100% sure that the old product's link was not at all present in the new product launch email.

Thanks!

If you're on email editor 1.0, check the text version of the email. There's a possibility that it wasn't updated and may contain default or previous content.

Best of luck!

Screenshot #1 = Click Email Activity Log Item

Screenshot #2 = Interesting Moment Activity Log Item

These 2 activities are unfortunately both not email click activities.  I wouldn't recommend that you compare these 2.   Please share 2 email click activities that contain different links.

Per your request, if the same email was sent to the same records in the same batch/trigger, the Mailing ID will be identical and the link would be different.

By apologies. Please see two click activity records below.

The first is a link that was present in the email as sent. The second link was not present in the email.

Thanks Tim, this was it!

All email copy was correct, but the intended links were missing - only the incorrect link was present. Very weird, but glad to have gotten to the bottom of this!

Nice one, Tim.

Have you considered whether somebody quietly "touched up" the approved email after it was sent? It happens.

I would recommend that you send yourself the email.  Treat yourself a lead and do a single flow.  When you receive the email, click on every single link and then go back to your lead to see the activity logs and see if that link is ever recorded.

If you still can't find it, reach out to support.

Screenshots would help here of one that was legitimate and one that was non-legitimate.  Also include as much information about the activity log details as possible.

Hi Jim -

I'll provide as much info as I can. Below is a screenshot of activity details for a lead who clicked a link NOT present in the actual email.

Here are activity details for a click recorded correctly:

Look at them, there are certainly some differences. Hopefully you can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks!
