how to use custom object field in the email?

Hi,

i would like use customObject.field in the email. how can i use it? i tried {{lead.customObject.field}} but it's not working for me.

also what if i have lots of customObject in lead, how can i choose which one i would like to use?
if i use custom field i can use {{lead.customField}},
