How do you restrict leads/contacts within Salesforce from Marketo?

Hi

We use accounts and contacts in Salesforce (rather than leads), and we set up some account sharing rules to restrict the contacts that Marketo could see.  However, it is not working and Marketo still seems to be able to see everything.  Does anyone have any tips or ideas that might help please?

Thanks very much.

Marketo support can also set up a synch filter for you on their end to ignore leads based on that checkbox, so this does not rely on SFDC sharing rules.

Doing the reverse of what Josh mentioned may be a lot easier. So basically you can have the records checked with a field "Don't SYNC to Marketo" since there will be lesser leads you don't want to sync and hence easier to manage the field. And have a default that it will be unchecked. If Unchecked, sync to Marketo, if checked don't sync to Marketo.

You can have a campaign running in Marketo to say delete if X is checked and if it had sunked before you were able to check the box. It won't sync back that way.

Well, you can tell the Marketo User to not have access to Leads.
You could add a field that is "Sync to Marketo" where if that is TRUE, then the User can see it. If not, the User cannot see it.
