How are opens calculated?

When sending a email out to a list, does the open number count only unique opens or includes more than one open from the same lead?

For example, Susan opens the email twice so the open number is 2 vs. Susan opens the email twice but the open number remains at 1.

Because in the "very smart" report, a click is assumed to follow opening the email (which, in human terms, it must).

In the "not quite as smart" list, it is only tracking the leads who truly downloaded the tracking pixel.

Hi Clark,

AFAIK, in email performance and other email reports, a lead counts for 1, whatever the number of opens.

Remember that opens are based on the download a 1-pixel image, meaning that you can only detect opens IF the receiving lead downloads images. In some email clients such as Outlook, image download is deactivated by default.

What could be the reasons for having more opens in the report but less then that when I do a smart campaign to see what leads open the email?
