Email links not working in IE

Starting today, links from email campaigns get an error message when they open in Internet Explorer.

This is the message:

This page can’t be displayed

Make sure the web address http://click.tenaquip.com is correct.

Look for the page with your search engine.

Refresh the page in a few minutes.

This happens even with links that previously worked. It appears to be because the links are too long, since one of our links, even with the tracking code on it, is around 250 characters.

All this to say, could it be some other problem then maybe a server side url character limit? Especially since it is only in IE. Internet Explorer has retired as of 2 weeks ago, and the links do work in other browsers, including Edge, so it could be that, but would like to find out if it could be something else causing this problem. thanks.

Re: Email links not working in IE

Not related to the length of the URL. As you can see, it happens with the simple hostname http://click.tenaquip.com as well.

What's happening is (quite unfortunately) the click tracking server is immediately disconnecting requests from IE. This happens over SSL as well, by the way.

You should open a ticket and call this a P1 regression. However, I wouldn't be at all hopeful about it being changed.

IE is decommisioned by Microsoft, so best to use a different browser.

But it's not about what browser @Isabelle_Kaleka is using, it's about what their leads are using.

You can't encourage leads to switch browsers if they can't even reach your pages at all. If you're lucky, some of them will open a different browser when they get a fatal error, but that's not the same as saying "Sorry, IE is no longer supported."
