So I've created numerous email link performance reports where the button was used to host the link. Each of these emails has the correct link I'd like to track; however, when running the report, "http://${Button-Link}" shows as one link along with the link that has been placed in the button. Can someone please advise as to why this is happening? I've sent the email to numerous people/addresses, and the button is always directing them to the proper site.
Thanks in advance.
How is this link being generated?
Was there a time when you tried to generate it using Velocity?
Thus far, the links have only been landing pages created in Marketo or files uploaded into the Design Studio and then linked to using the url created upon upload.
Also, no: there has been no use of Velocity. The link is simply being placed in the Button module of an email template from Marketo.
Are you sure that at some point the link was not a variable inside an editable area (which would result in the literal variable name being used in the link, thus appearing in the logs)?
This would still allow someone to go to the correct site, correct? If so, this very well could be what has happened(!), as the button leads to the correct url, but just doesn't populate with the address name in the report.
I wouldn't be too optimistic about it having worked at the time that entry was originally generated, but would trust it works now.
Hm, interesting. The thing is, it is continuing to happen. We use the button format in many of our emails, so all the link reports are pulling that info, but the emails are all directing to the appropriate places when the tests send (and even when the email sends, as I receive those as part of a seed list). Odd.
Michele, I believe this is happening because your links aren't updated in the text only version of your emails. See:
https://nation.marketo.com/docs/DOC-6948-email-link-performance-report-shows-button-link-instead-of-...
My question: is there no way for these links to be updated automatically by Marketo? It seems currently that one needs to manually go to the Text view (at the bottom of the screen) in the Marketo email editor, and replace variables such as ${button-link} with an actual URL.
Variables aren't supported in the Text version, so it's not really so much "automatically" as "at all".
