Hi guys,

Started working with Marketo this year, so very new to this community.  I found a weird bug highlighted by our team, when clicking on "view in browser" in the web browser view, the token (first and last name in the example I share) disappears. Have you experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix this, or maybe remove the option altogether?

Thanks a lot!

But when the webview link is clicked again within the browser, that token is no longer passed along — so Marketo can’t identify the lead

That’s not true, though.

View as Web Page is expected to internally contain a tracked link to View as Web Page, as does the VAWP after that, etc.

So you can continually click the link and have an associated pageview with tokens populated. Unless something is broken in your setup.

Hi @fabiocorreiak
Welcome to the Marketo community!

From what I understand, your team is first opening the email from their inbox and clicking the "View as Webpage" link — and in that case, the tokens appear correctly. However, when they click "View as Webpage" again within the browser version of the email, the tokens no longer display.

This behavior occurs because the first time the email is opened from the inbox, Marketo appends a unique tracking token (mkt_tok) to the webview URL, allowing it to identify the lead and render personalized tokens.

But when the webview link is clicked again within the browser, that token is no longer passed along — so Marketo can’t identify the lead, and tokens like {{lead.First Name}} or {{lead.Last Name}} will not resolve and appear blank. You can add the default values along with tokens.

Hope that would helpful.

Thanks!!

You are absolutely correct, just spoke with the Marketo support, and the small but important detail is that this only happens in the test version of the email. So indeed it is behaving as it should whenever the email is sent.

Thanks a lot for the support!

To be clear, do you mean clicking View as Web Page to open the email in a browser tab, then again clicking the View as Web Page link in that new tab?

This is indeed the case, I know it is unlikely that someone will click "View in browser" while already viewing the email in the web browser, but just wanted to know if this is standard behavior.

Thank you!

Standard behavior is for VAWP to work, always, regardless of how you deep you click.
