Hi,
I am researching dynamic email content.
Segmentation is suggested by the help docs as the first step.
I have two questions:
1. If I segment a lead, can I later remove that segment and return the lead to a "clear slate"?
2. Is segmentation the only way to do dynamic email content?
Thanks.
Thanks Ronen.
What are the advantages of using segmentation for dynamic content vs smart lists?
We have over 50 content variations for just one newsletter issue alone.
And how would snippets be served dynamically to a lead based on lead criteria? For example, can I show a snippet based on job title?
Olivia, please look at the docs in more detail. You may have to decide which is less painful - smart lists or segmentations and dynamic content.
I would be very careful to deactivate a Segmentation. Once you do so, it is gone and all dependent assets will default to Default.
Hi Josh, thanks for the detailed response.
The 50 variations are based on role and industry.
I think smart lists would get tedious, especially considering this will be an ongoing effort with at least one newsletter issue per month.
I have enough information now to make a decision for segmentation rather than smart lists.
Don't forget email scripting! Scripting isn't just for localizing date formats and such little touchups.
When dealing with a jumble of possible permutations (with segmentations, a lead can only be in one segment at a time) scripting is really the only way to sanity. A script can, for example, display data for both "New Jersey" and "NY-NJ-CT Tristate" if a lead is in New Jersey. This would require more than one segmentation, and each instance has a limited number of segmentations.
Sanford, thanks for your answer. Just what I needed to ask next.
I have some dynamic content blocks that require segment 1 + segment 2 to be true to show. For example, if a person's job title is "Marketing Manager" AND city is "New York City", then show them content for Marketing Manager in NYC.
Sounds like I need to do email scripting for those because dynamic content in the email editor only allows one segment per content block.
I've never done email scripting.
Any guidance on where to begin the learning process for this particular case?
Please open another thread and I'll answer there.
