Building Custom Email Templates

I'm trying to build a custom email template that will allow for specific log and nav bar/button placement with specific size CTA images/button. I'm having trouble figuring out where to start, How can you been editing the HTML with a start from scratch template? And are there more templates than what is on http://templates.marketo.com/?

Marketo either allows a block-level element to be editable (i.e. everything in that element) using the class "mktEditable" or it is locked in place by the template. There is no way to absolutely position anything apart from doing it in the HTML itself.
