Automatically deleting incoming spam

There has been a lot of discussion with my organization about fake leads that we have coming in (those that fill in forms/contact us with smappy emails). I recently took a look at a Stack Overflow article on Blocking comment spam without using captcha and would also like to ask some Marketo professionals. Do you have any advice on how to manage incoming spam?

Matt,

There are some articles on this.

I had more but they seem to have disappeared.

Re: Automatically deleting incoming spam

One of the links that you sent says that  Marketo has "built protection mechaism that helps tremendpusly with reducing the number of spam fills" - I am still getting a ton of spam. Any insight to what they are?

Re: Automatically deleting incoming spam

Hey Matt,

We had some issues with this as well and Marketo's built in protections weren't helping at all.

The best approach is to dig into the spam leads and try to isolate similarities and slowly begin filtering them out of your campaigns. For us, it was a couple specific forms that seemed to be affected and we set up smart campaigns based on the similarities we found that kept the leads from being pushed to salesforce.

Re: Automatically deleting incoming spam

We had a spam bot issue, and found that all of them had the inferred region of: Fuzhou city, fujian provincial network of UNICOM

so, i just created a smartlist looking for anyone with this region (not a place we get leads from), and then created a smart campaign that would trigger on any new lead creation, and if a member of this list, would nuke them.
