Anyone having odd deliverability issues?

Hello,

Recently we have noticed strange behaviour with deliverability, particularly with our test emails. The tough thing is these dont' show up in the activity log so it's difficult for us to identify why the email didn't come through.

When we've emailed support they have shown a boucne reason of "551 Mailhost is on our global block list." Unfortunately our spam filter doesn't allow whitelisted IPs to be bypassed once they are on the blacklist.

It get stranger. We are finding that this is very sporadic. One minute test will go through fine, the next they aren't. Over the course of today there have been over a dozen occurances where test go through just fine, then minutes later we aren't getting anything.

Needless to say this is very frusturating. Has anyone else encounterd similar issues? Any workarounds?

Re: Anyone having odd deliverability issues?

Hi Chris,

We had deliverability issues in past and here are a few measures that we took to control all that:

1. Moved to a dedicated IP from shared IP (suggested by Marketo) to send out emails from Marketo.
2. Removed chronic hard and soft bounces
3. Verified our email addresses in Strikeiron to be double sure that we remove all spam and threat addresses
4. Got ourselves whitelisted for some domains via Marketo. They approached the receiving servers and get us whitelisted.

Thanks,

Re: Anyone having odd deliverability issues?

The issue with removing hard bounces (chronic or otherwise) us that Marketo incorrectly flags some records (such as emails blocked by Spamcop) and you could be removing perfectly legit emails which would normally get delivered.

Obviously removing legit bounces (invalid users) is best practice!

How did you decide what servers to approach? And did each of these measures help your deliverability?

Re: Anyone having odd deliverability issues?

Hi Bree,

Marketo support will help you here. We checked the bounces and bounce codes/ reasons. Also checked number of emails sent Vs. bounced for same domain (just a quick check). This helps us know if receiving server has blocked us.

Thanks,

Gunjan
