Tighter integration with field tokens and forms

I imagine most people are using email alerts in some way, shape or form in Marketo to let their sales team know about the activity on one of their leads, track event registrations, etc. It’s easy enough to add field tokens into these email assets to put in the relevant lead information obtained by a form.

The problem, though, is that forms change over time – fields get added and others get removed. Right now, if you wanted your alerts to match the fields of the form that triggered it, you’d have to go in and manually make the field changes on both the form and the alert independently. This is tedious, and it can lead to errors especially when you have a lot of similarly named fields in your CRM (eg you’re trying to remember if the field you want to use is LeadDisposition or Lead_Disposition1).

I think it would be valuable to have some sort of direct tie in between the form and the alert, So that you could drag over a related form’s fields into the email asset automatically, much like you drag in a form from a landing page. So instead of individually adding all the form fields, you’d look up the actual form, and it would pull those fields in automatically. This would also link the email and the form together, so any time the form fields change, the email would update automatically.

This same functionality could also ideally be applied to use in landing pages and snippets, but I just wanted to call out the specific use case as an example above.

It’s a quality-of-life feature for sure, but it would make creating alerts faster  and maintaining them much easier.

That's a complicated idea there Jeff. 🙂 Could one alert be used for multiple forms, or only one?

Good point, hadn't thought about it from that angle. Given that multiple forms using one alert is a definite possibility, perhaps the tie in is broader: "if a form submission occured, pull whatever fields that were used in that form into the alert". It would ideally know which form was submitted based on the smart campaign that triggered the alert to be sent in the first place.
