RCE 2.0

RCE 2.0

I would love to see an overhaul of RCE. I get so close to being able to pull the metrics I want but always hit road blocks and have to export a few different reports into excel to get to the numbers/analytics I am looking for. I figured to honor Eric Hollebone Form 2.0 idea, I'd create an RCE 2.0 idea with some of the big wishes I have for RCE inclluding but not limitied to:
1. Shareable dashboards (my CEO won't login to Marketo to look at something, let me share a url with the info) if we could export a pretty dashboard of have a url to share w/o login
2. Gauges in dashboards - Being able to put in a goal and display results towards a goal is exteremly important
3. Overall usability improvements - Add ability to rename reports and folders - Move reports between folders - Adding folders within newly created folders for better organization
4. Real time? - Having to wait a day to see any changes is painful
5. Search.... Since I can seam to put things already created into a folder structure I want, I'd love to at least search for reports
6. Improvements around time frames - In order to pull certain reports I find myslef having to add a period cost of 0 for every month after the actual period cost
7. UI improvements - it ain't pretty

I love what I am able to get out of RCE but I think there are a lot of things that can be improved... HELP!

I would like to add tmy weight to Lindsay H's suggestion of subscribing people to reports and dashboards. I have the same issue but with multiple people.

After using RCE quite heavily the past few weeks, I've encountered several times when I forgot to save a report and either accidentally closed the report; or didn't close/save the report within the time period before my session expired.  So I would ask for the following basic enhancements:
  • Prompt/remind you to SAVE when you close a report ("Report has not been saved - do you wish to close anyway?")
  • Auto-save every xx minutes

We're opening up RCE to more and more users in our Marketing organization.  It's concerning that someone can very easily delete all of the reports in one quick step (by right-clicking on a folder and clicking "delete").  How about adding folder permissions based on user-role?  Read-only access would also be useful since most of our marketers just want to see these reports - not configure them.  And since Marketo doesn't offer a way to share the reports outside of RCE, we have no choice but to give them access to RCE.

I would also like to see the ability to generate a direct link to a report - instead of having a user guess where their report might be located.

@Dan -- You can actual subscribe to reports without having someone enter the RCE area. If you go to your Analytics tab in MKTO, then click Subscriptions tab at the top. Then select New Report Subscription from the drop down. When it asks you "Report Source" in the drop down select Revenue Explorer. You can then select your report, email recipients, frequency from there 🙂

@Dan -- I will note that you cannot subscribe to dashboards in RCE, but you CAN subscribe to reports!

Hi Joy - I am aware of the report subscriptions capability within Analytics.  What I'm looking for is the ability to generate a direct link to the reports (the recipients do not need to receive this more than once).  For example, I just created a series of reports (# Touches, # Responses, # MQLs, by country, by campaign - for Q1-FY15, which is Sept-Nov for us) for each of our 21 regions around the world - for a total of 63 reports (due to some of the limitations of RCE, I wasn't able to condense all of this data in 21 central reports).  My desire was to generate direct links (read-only access) to these reports within a single email to the field.  Instead, I had export each report to Excel, save it locally and then include it as an attachment to each country marketer.

@Dan - Ahhh, I see! Then, yes...that would be a good suggested feature. You're right, other than subscriptions and exporting the reports (which...sounds like you've got a ton to export), it would require a lot of work on your end. 😕

A URL that will open an RCE report for a Marketo user can be found by creating a subscription for the report in the Analytics module, then clicking the "View" icon at the left-most end of the row displaying the subscription parameters, and copying the URL from the browser that opens. These URLs take the form, "https://{marketo instance}.marketo.com/rce2012/content/analyzer/editor?command=open&solution={companyname}_folder&path=customer-reports%2F{subfolder name if any}&action={report name with spaces replaced by "+"}.xanalyzer"

Not exactly what @Dan was looking for, as the permissions issues he identified persist, but this may be helpful for sharing reports among trusted Marketo users.

RCE has solved several problems for me (like getting contact names/companies in email link performance reports when links contain unique identifiers, etc.) but I agree with OP Jeff C. that its value could be much enhanced with some straightforward improvements.

My votes go to his #3 suggestion (folder management); Lindsey Juelfs suggestion (filter logic); and Brian D.'s suggestions on RCE reports emailed via subscription, at https://community.marketo.com/MarketoIdeaDetail?id=08750000000KJHJAA4 - and thanks to @Dan for pointing me to this Idea.

Paul, thanks for pointing out that there is a way to grab a direct URL to a report.  As you can see here - and by the comments by other users - there are many who are extremely passionate about the RCE add-on.  In fact, once you use RCE, there's no turning back.  We hardly ever use the built-in reports in the core environment since they're lacking the information/data/customization that's most meaningful to us as an organization.

My main concern at the moment are the file management capabilities (or lack thereof).  No prompts for not saving your report, ability to delete an entire folder of reports, lack of report/folder management for existing reports/folders,  no recycle bin, ability for anyone to modify the reports, etc.

I hear there is going to be a over haul of Revenue Cycle Explorer, its been a long time coming.
The upcoming Analytics Re-Design webinar next week is detailing the changes to RCA and maybe getting a chance to see what their doing with RCE.

I've eagerly signed up... http://pages2.marketo.com/AnalyticsRe-Design-March2015.html
