PLEASE enable content locking in SFDC (Sales Insight) templates!

I work in a highly regulated industry (medical device) and we need to be able to lock content in templates that we release to the sales team in SFDC. In Marketo, this feature works beautifully with a DIV tag (mrkto_editable) placed before content blocks, allowing users of that template to only edit specific content with that DIV tag in front of it. I created a template completely void of this specific DIV tag, expecting the content in turn to be locked in SFDC.To my disappointment/horror, I found every corner of our email templates were unlocked and editable. This poses a series legal/regulatory issue for us (and I'm sure others??), as our reps can erase approved messaging and replace it with off-label and inaccurate statements. What does that mean to us? That means, should a customer follow false claims made by a rep in an branded email template with a trackable regulatory approval code--and a patient dies, the clinician can report this to the FDA. The FDA can fine us and pursue other actions such as audits and pulling product from the market--all because content in a template in SFDC wasn't locked.

Okay, so that's an extreme example, but a plausible one. I am begging you, Marketo Engineers-- PLEASE enable the "mrkto_editable" DIV tag (or lack thereof) to work in SFDC templates as well! I can't imagine why this can't be done, but welcome reasonable explanations 🙂

Thanks!

This definitely wouldn't be possible with the plugins, as the sales user is in full control of what text is sent from Outlook/Gmail. The template just pre-loads the mail. We can potentially evaluate what we could do when sending email from within SFDC. Definitely more complicated than it seems, though.

The templates are loaded/sent from SFDC, but I'm unsure of the Outlook integration in SFDC. This is disappointing, as we were told that we could lock content with templates in SFDC when we were evaluating Marketo last year (while also considering other competitors). Unsure I understand why it's complicated. If you're integrating into SFDC and porting a template over to SFDC from Marketo, why wouldn't the template behave as it does in Marketo? Maybe I'm over-simplifying, but it appears as though other marketing automation platforms have figured this out.

Again, this is a potential legal/liability issue for us, as well as other Marketo customers (I would bet). I urge your team to seriously consider this feature--if for nothing else, as an improvement to the SFDC integration and peace of mind for Marketers who have to comply with a long list of legal/regulatory requirements and fears.

I encourage you to reach out to me and my account manager, Steven Sakadales to discuss this further.

Thanks!

You can add the lead in SFDC to a Marketo campaign, which will send a fixed email that lives in Marketo. That doesn't allow the sales person to edit any of the content in the email, however. The from address would have to be something like {{lead.Sales Owner}}

If you want to discuss more, please reach out at jcooperman@marketo.com. I can explain why adding additional functionality to SFDC isn't as straightforward as it seems. We do want to do it, it's just not a "quick fix"

Justin,

Following up to see if this is something Marketo is going to fix? Another Marketo user (Larissa Postell) has asked for the same thing--her request received a "We Like It" remark while mine is "We Like It, But It's Complicated"....doesn't make sense.

Anyway, who do we need to get involved on the engineering side to take a closer look at these two similar requests, and hopefully take it seriously? Again there are legal implications for not locking content.

Thanks,

Melody
