Recently leads created in 2014 via 'Web form fillout' that never qualified to be synced to SFDC because they do not have a Last Name field value had a Sync Lead to SFDC activity that failed. The notification email from Marketo Notifications indicates "Marketo is unable to sync some leads to Salesforce.com because they contain invalid characters." This is misleading as the absence of a value in the Last Name field was the cause. I suggest the sync error notification identify the cause as REQUIRED_FIELD_MISSING and possibly identify the field.
Also, the Sync Lead to SFDC activity in the leads' Activity Logs, have no indication of what caused the sync to be initiated and the activity detail displays only 'No attributes to display'. However, the sync was initiated by a Marketo program synced to an SFDC campaign and I suggest that the Marketo program name should be shown in the Campaign Name column of a lead's Activity Log when this occurs.
