Email Link Tagging

Email Link Tagging

I'd like to be able to tag links based on their type and have the ability to report on these tags.  This would allow for a higher level of link reporting.  For example, our emails typically have 4 types of links; experiences, on sale, special offers and main promo. Having link tagging and reporting would allow us to see what types of links perform better than others.

Hi Jason,

Are you at least doing this with URL parameters now?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply.  Are you referring to alt tags? If so, yes.  All of our images and links contain alt tags.

Hi Jason,

Not as much alt tags as just adding parameters to your URLs to be able to distinguish the linkes in your email link performance report.

So something like this:

www.landingpage.com is the hyperlink on my banner, side bar and main call to action button.  I want to distinguish which is getting the most clicks so I'd add parameters to the URL like this:

1.  Banner: www.landingpage.com?source=banner
2.  Side Bar:  www.landingpage.com?source=sbar
3.  Button:  www.landingpage.com?source=button

Same concept that google uses to track the search queries.  Won't affect your links or the navigation, but gives a bit more detail into where it came from.

Alt Tags and being able to do link performance based on them would be ideal, but I haven't heard anything from Marketo on enabling this in the near future.
