Add a Badge Scanner to the Marketo Event App

Add a Badge Scanner to the Marketo Event App

It would be awesome if the Marketo Event App had a built in badge scanner to collect lead information at tradeshows. Many of the tradeshows we attend put 2D barcodes on the attendees badges. We currently use a badge scanning service but would love to be able to automatically connect with attendees on the showroom floor using Marketo.

I love the capabilities of the Marketo app. Please add the badge scanner!

Christina,

I'm curious- for your events, are the badges and scanners provided by the venue? I've found that a lot of tradeshows don't let folks use their own scanning systems (lame as that is), but force you to rent their own solution. Is that the case at your shows or no?

That's true. Some trade shows deter you from using an outside scanning device.

For the events I've attended (associations in the higher education industry and the healthcare technology industry), the badges are provided by the trade show. The scanners are available for rent from a 3rd party company (recommended by the trade show association - of course!). The device scanning system we use reads the badges pretty well. Here's more info on its compatability

Prehaps off topic - We are Rolling out E-tickets using a QR code generated in salesforce as the QR code is just a URL when scanned by a QR reader (on an Tablet) it opens directly to the record in Salesforce so we can update attendance.

There may be a work round like that for known leads in the marketo event App but it would be nice if you could do it natively.

Not off topic, Craig. We're currently going through the process of on-boarding salesforce. I was not aware of this capability. Are you able sync the info captured in salesforce to a Marketo smart list campaign?

If you can get the person into a Salesforce then syncing should not be a problem.

for example have a field on the contact/lead called "Event attended" then when changed have a campagin in marketo to put them into smart list. (Smart list "Data Value Change")

When we do this most people are currentley in salesforce and marketo and new leads syncs to Marketo

For the QR code

1. Get the ID of the record and put in a formula field (text field pulling the record id)

2. To show a QR Code  that is 150 x 150 pixels on the record put in a text forumal field
"https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=https://eu3.salesforce.com/"& Id (id is calling the above field)
eu3 is our instance of salesforce, check your salesforce url as it maybe na1 etc and replace

3. You can then use the Above field in emails to show the QR code.

We recently used this on a custom object to mark attendance for a 4 City 5 Event tour involving just over 7000 customers.

We'll have to give it a try. Thanks, Craig!
