MCE 2017 Exam Prep

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

I took the new 2017 MCE exam yesterday and will say that it was more difficult, although I did pass. I felt it was more difficult because I come from an IT department that runs the back-end of the system, and am NOT a marketing-focused front-end user, which the exam seems to be more geared toward. I also felt that a good amount of the questions were more subjective and it was along the lines of "pick the best answer", which, as we all know depends on our different business needs.

I will also note that I did not study or do the training provided but still passed. However, I would not recommend this. My experience is as follows:

Dec 2014 - Aug 2015: Used Marketo at an Admin level

Aug 2015 - Dec 2016: Used Pardot at an Admin level

Jan 2017 - current: Using Marketo at an Admin level

That being said, I have about a year of experience using Marketo at an Admin level.

Next I am looking to take some Specialization Exams, has anyone taken any of these? Also, if you pass all of the Specializations can you still become a Certified Consultant?

Thanks!

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

I am also curious about the Certified Consultant status re: Specializations.

I re-certified this weekend and found the new version of the MCE slightly easier than the previous year. The questions were geared more towards marketers than non-marketing admins, as Carley noted above. I've been a Marketo admin since December 2015 for two different organizations and have learned most of my Marketo knowledge on the fly.

The prep course content was adequate but did feel very high-level. I prefer to review and study using test questions and online flash cards versus a three-hour online training.

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

Carley - I took the email deliverability specialization, and passed easily. I found it to be more focused on terminology and IT rather than scenario based. Some of the wording on a few questions was weird and unclear. I think the 'Marketo Certified Consultant' is a thing of the past. I believe you can now be an MCE, have Marketo Specialist Certifications, or take on the Marketo Certified Solutions Architect process.

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

Michelle Miles,

Hi there! I ended up taking and easily passing about 5 of the specializations and found some of those to be more IT focused than the MCE as well. I agree, some of the wording is unclean in the specializations exams, and there are spelling and grammar errors, but I suppose those are newer and maybe not as well vetted as the MCE.

Thanks!

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

The 3 hour training session was really helpful and the pre-recording has been great to re-visit. However I would also like to see a practice exam test that we can take.

Re: MCE 2017 Exam Prep

Hi everyone,

If y'all went to Marketing Nation Summit, WELCOME BACK!  Hope you had a great learning experience and a ton of fun.  I sure did.  So... I took the exam at Summit and passed.  The things I did to prep:

1)  The 3 hour prep course with Don Mayberry (which took more like 2 hours).  He goes through it REALLY fast.  As part of this prep course, you get a study guide for concepts to learn (and where to find them) and there were about 30 practice questions at the end of this guide.  If I'm not mistaken, these were questions that were part of the beta exam but didn't make it to the official test.  The concepts and wording were VERY SIMILAR.  This was my bible for the exam and every concept was touched upon somewhere in the test.

2)  I did the intermediate track of University Day at Marketing Nation Summit.  Our instructor straight up told us concepts that would be on the exam and gave us scenarios of said concepts.  Super duper helpful.

3)  Took the time to really look at different reporting capabilities and when to use each.

I've been using Marketo for a little over a year and am an admin.  Or at least I was until recently when we hired a Marketo Champ who eats, sleeps, lives and breathes this stuff.

Hope this helps.
