Adding Emoticons to Subject Line

Is it just me or is it impossible to add emoticons to Marketo subject lines? Seems to strip them out for me every time...

Actually, Marketo is supporting emojis from unicode 5.2 and previous. This blogpost here shows them... You can copy paste them in your subject lines, sender name fiels and in your tokens... and test, test, test !

That's not actually how it's done. Only a limited number of emojis work via direct copy-paste. You should read my (earlier, more complete) blog post linked above.

Hello Sanford,

Well, I dit it... Actually, I was so enthusiastic when I read it few weeks ago. I tested it and everything was fine ! But some times after, It was not working anymore... I made other tests and I found that you can copy paste emojis from unicode 5.2 and previous. Sometimes they are not well displayed by Marketo, but it manages them.

Wouldn't an emoticon in the subject line give the email more potential for going into the SPAM or trash folder? I wouldn't recommend emoticons in a subject line.

No evidence whatsoever that this is true. Emojis are used by the world's biggest brands.

Yep - and they are used for a reason. Higher open rates.

Industry specific successes with emojis. We don't see any decrease in performance with them, but we also don't have a significant increase in opens due to emojis

Of course. But I don't want to predict anyone's site-specific experience. What is clear is that they don't reduce open rates.

Maybe trying AB Testing is a good way to see if it works or not.

So, it's possible, but Marketo does not make this easy. Grégoire Michel

Hi Pierce,

Not sure why you mentioned me here

Something to add to your ever growing list of product enhancements. It shouldn't require special coding to add these...

Yes, Pierce it is possible (and not just until you save the draft!). It'll be on my blog tomorrow. Pubbed just now: http://blog.teknkl.com/yes-you-can-use-emojis-in-marketo-subject-lines/

Hi Sanford,

I went to the site you provided but couldn't find the Q code emoji converter. Is it somewhere else?

Thanks,

Bonnie

It's right in the middle of the blog post:

Hey, just a heads up. I had used your encoder in the past and it worked brilliantly. I just tried to access it again and the generate button doesn't seem to be operating.

Generate button is working fine for me 🤔

This is fantastic! Is it too late to send a blast with a Christmas tree in the subject line now?

SanfordWhiteman

Sure, just keep it witty!

Maybe even "We just figured out how to use emojis, so..."

Of course not! Ha "Christmas is over, back to work we go! *tree *sad face"
