Hello!
We recently set up the ZoomInfo integration with Marketo and are creating nurtures and pushing ZoomInfo lists into those campaigns. We try to limit the size of the lists so that we're not sending a large volume of emails.
Sometimes, however, a member on our marketing team will create a larger list in Zoominfo and they want to break the list up so we're not sending it all at once. So we do this manually and bypass the integration and download the list, break it into multiples lists, and these static lists into the campaign over the course of a month or so. The question has come up - is there a better way to handle these larger lists? Is there a way to basically throttle the list so that it doesn't all go out at once, but we can pull parts of it on a weekly basis?
Any insight from anyone that's run ZI campaigns in campaigns via Marketo is appreciated!
Thanks,
Dan
Hi @Dan_DiLorenzo,
As others have mentioned, there's no native throttling functionality in Marketo. However, one effective workaround is to set up a recurring batch campaign that runs weekly, combined with a "Random Sample" filter in the Smart List.
Here’s a simple way to structure it:
Create a static list from your ZoomInfo import.
Build a Smart Campaign with the following:
Smart List: Pull in leads from your static list and add the random sample (Eg. 25% - Based on the list size) choice in the smart list itself.
Flow: Use the “Send Email” step
Schedule the campaign to run weekly using a recurring batch schedule.
Use flow once qualification rule so the leads that have already qualified from the campaign in past can be excluded from future runs.
This helps you throttle large lists in a controlled, automated way without having to manually break them up each time.
Please check if below solution can help you
1) Push your large list into a static list or program from ZoomInfo (via the native integration)
2) Set up a batch Smart Campaign with Smart List "Member of List=Your Zoom Info List"
3) In the Flow:
Send Email (Random Sample = 25%)
Wait 7 Days
Send Email (Random Sample = 25%)
Wait 7 Days
Send Email (Random Sample = 25%)
Wait 7 Days
Send Email to Remaining (default)
Thanks
@reetusharmaGrz1 - That advise is not great. In your first flow step, that email is sent to 25% of the list. In your second, it's send to 25% of the list, but these second 25% can overlap with your first. Random Sample is always creating a new sample, unless you put them in one flow step.
@Dan_DiLorenzo There is in fact no native throttling in Marketo. Often asked for, but not available. So your breaking down of that list is your best option. You can break that list down in Marketo though by using the exact same procedure as on the screenshot above but just with the flow step "Add to List", and then use List Membership to send the emails in split batches over time. But if that's faster or more convenient than breaking down the list outside of Marketo, I'm not sure.
