This field normally should never change it's value and be set by Marketo. So
Block field update in Marketo, from any source
Create the necessary smart campaigns in Marketo to set the value
either make it read only in SFDC or use a proxy field in Marketo to store the latest value and if some changes it in SFDC reset it back to the proxy value
