Regarding that first article you sent, I don't understand the need for the hidden fields. Can't you just set up your smart campagin to add someone to a SFDC if they fill out the form? What's the need for the extra steps of creating the hidden fileds? Am I missing something here?

Syncing them to sfdc is for lead life cycle management. The add to SFDC Campaign process gives you reporting on Marketing sourced pipeline and opportunity influence based on the multi-touch situation you have with most b2b revenue cycles.
