Using my.tokens in email template: How does it render in plain text version?

We have a monthly email newsletter with 4 sections. To make it easy & quick to clone and replace the content, I'm using my.tokens (per suggestion from a session I attended at Summit). The HTML version of the email looks great. The plain text version looks awful and includes the HTML code. How can I fix this?

Example of some of the plain text:

Re: Using my.tokens in email template: How does it render in plain text version?

Hi Megan,

It looks like you probably to do 1 of 2 things:
  1. Keep the current tokens, but create separate "text" tokens and use those in your text version (this could be problematic, as hitting the "copy from html" would overwrite differences between the html and text)
  2. Change the format of your email so that all the HTML lives in the template, and the tokens ONLY contain plain text content.
Currently, your my.tokens are inserting html per your settings. The text version doesnt automatically strip out those html tags. Only that "copy from html" function will do that, which can't be done with those tokens.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Re: Using my.tokens in email template: How does it render in plain text version?

Even my tokens with very minimal HTML are showing extra code that is unpleasant. <em><strong>If you have already renewed or begun the renewal process, please disregard this message.</strong></em>

I love using the my tokens and the thought of having to create additional "text only" tokens seems ridiculous. There has to be a solution for this. And since I have no way of knowing how many text vs HTML emails are being received, I'm going to treat this as fairly urgent. Super sad to discover this flaw

There's an idea about creating plain text version of my.tokens to help avoid this problem in the future.
