Tuesday Tech Bytes: Streamlining Developer Documentation with Marketo's CO/CA Metadata Export (Dt. 11/28/2023)
Greetings, Marketing Nation! Welcome back to another insightful edition of "Tuesday Tech Bytes."
Today, let's uncover an efficient method for sharing Marketo Custom Object (CO) or Custom Activity (CA) details with developers or for personal use: the metadata export feature.
When it comes to relaying information about COs or CAs, exporting their metadata proves to be an indispensable method. Instead of manually piecing together API names, fields, and related data, leveraging the export functionality within Marketo simplifies and ensures accuracy in documentation.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to export CO/CA metadata:
This process generates a comprehensive Excel sheet containing all pertinent details, including the assets currently utilizing the CO/CA. It's an all-inclusive documentation method that your developers will greatly appreciate.
A crucial point to remember is that COs/ CAs must be in the Approved state to be exported successfully. Additionally, if the CO export feature isn't enabled, it might require reaching out to Marketo to enable it for your instance.
By opting for this method, you avoid the pitfalls of manual work and potential errors that come with manual copying and pasting or sharing snapshots of CO/CA details. This streamlined approach not only saves time but also ensures accuracy in conveying intricate Marketo configurations.
Enhance your development collaboration and documentation precision by harnessing this powerful metadata export feature within Marketo. Keep empowering your marketing strategies with Marketo's robust capabilities, Marketing Nation! ⚡
This a great tip especially as I have some old workspaces with a few remaining campaigns from brand acquisitions migration that still need be moved to the global workspace - easy to forget some older campaigns, and occasionally they need to stay active even if little activity.
@Zoe_Forman, I'm glad you found the tip helpful! It's true that when dealing with campaigns from brand acquisitions or migrations, it can be a bit challenging to keep track of the older ones. This situation highlights the importance of carefully assessing the need for each campaign and taking advantage of the 'reset the clock' method when necessary. 🙂
This is exciting! Looking forward to learning from you! @Darshil_Shah1
Thank you, @Science37! I'm equally excited to share knowledge and learn together. Let's embark on this journey of growth and discovery!
