Same email in multiple nurture programs

Question - how do I ensure that if a lead belongs to multiple nurture programs, which have one or more identicle emails, that they don't receive the email more than once?

Will cloning the email from another program track that it’s used or do I have the save the email as central resource somehow?
 
Any help is welcome. πŸ™‚

If same lead comes through different nuture programs, it will be a unique lead in lead database. Therefore, when you will create a smart list to send email, it will not be sent more than once.

Hi Neal,

If you clone the email, it is possible that the person will receive the email twice.  Marketo is smart enough to know not to send the same exact email to a person more than once, but not smart enough to know that a cloned email is still the same email. 

If you already have campaigns set up using local assets, I'd advise just reusing those in additional nurture programs.  Going forward, I like to keep nurture emails as global assets in the Design Studio so that I don't risk cloning and picking the wrong email for a nurture program or stream.

Hi Dory,

I like your idea of keeping nurture emails as global assets and reusing the emails in various nurture streams. One question though -- with that setup, is there a way to track the success of the email in the individual streams or engagement programs?

For example, say I have "Email A" that I have placed in two different engagement programs called "Nurture 1" and "Nurture 2". If a lead responds to Email A (i.e. fills out the form from the CTA), how do I know which engagement program they came from?

You could always add in a filter of Not Was Delivered Email of XXX and point to the alternate versions.

Hi,

As Clinton suggested, the best solution is to add the filter "Not Was Delivered Email " or "Not was Sent email". Select the emails in the filter on which you want to put the check.
