Salutation - how to differentiate between male and female

Hi all,

As most of you will know that in the English language we don't differentiate between female and male. In most other languages we do. So in Spanish it's Estimada for female and Estimado for male. The same applies in French, German and in fact most other languages.

Is there anything we can do in Marketo in order to get this right? Or do I need to send different emails to all my female contacts and all my male contacts? Sounds a bit complicated and I'm sure somebody has come across this problem before.

I look forward to suggestions and ideas.

Thanks

Kristin

Interesting, I've forwarded this thread to my regional marketing managers to get their feedback as I haven't come across this before.

Adam has a great response to this question in the Hi Sir/Madam Code? thread: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDiscussionDetail?id=90650000000PdmxAAC

We have a feature called Formula Fields (the name is a bit misleading) that will allow you to set an If statement on the formula.  Please check out this article:  https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000Kyp3CAC

Aww. Thanks Emily. That's what I would do, create a formula field. Make sure you stay on top of the underlying data, cause if it doesn't fit the formula, it won't work properly.
