Thanks Trevor!!
That makes sense. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify these things for me.
Hi Danielle Chan,
The Engaged flow step needs to be in a second Smart campaign, not the the one that is sending the email. The one that is in the email send campaign will change it to targeted etc...
See my screen shots below.
Thank you for sharing the screenshots. It all makes sense!
For my organization, the clicked is a separate status > Clicked. Engaged is when someone fills out a form for us. But I get the idea.
So if I do 4 smart campaigns for email sent, opened email, clicked email, and engaged. Should I have to worry about the program status updating every time someone opens the email?
For example. If I open the email, and I click a link, and then later on open the email again, will the program status behave this way:
1) status changed to email opened
2) status changed to clicked link
3) status changed to email opened
Thanks!
Hi Danielle Chan,
If you look at the channel tags and click on your Email Blast Tag for example will see that there is a number value beside each status.
Example:
SENT 5
OPENED 10
CLICKED 15
ENGAGED 20
You can use the numbers to organise the status' in order from first (lowest number) to last (highest number). Once a status has occurred you can not technically move backwards in the channel (There are ways, but not without messing around).
This means that once it changes to opened and then to clicked it can not go back to opened as the number value of opened is less than clicked.
Got it!! Thanks Gerard! I wasn't sure what those numbers meant when I came across them previously. You are amazing!!
Thanks again for all your help!!!
No problem at all, glad you got sorted!
So I implemented this for my first campaign, and it was only sent to contacts (customers), but somehow leads became a part of the Salesforce Campaign, and also a bunch of contacts/leads without email addresses were added to the campaign.
Also, the number of emails opened and clicked are not matching. Salesforce is showing less than what Marketo is showing. Any tips?
One more thing, if a contact was SENT an email, I don't want them to be a SFDC campaign member. I only want open, clicked, and engaged to be SFDC Campaign sync member. Is that possible? OR will I have to skip setting the Salesforce Campaign Sync and create triggered smart campaigns to the SFDC campaign sync?
Super helpful thread!! Thank you Danielle Chan, Trevor Parsell, and Gerard Donnelly for the thorough notes.
I have another question for this - I send an email and had Marketo create the SFDC campaign for me, so I imagine it's syncing at the program level. I made a smart campaign to listen for click thrus.
In the SFDC side the status of the campaign members are invited (aka sent) and my one click thru BUT I know a few should have an open status but they do not.
Any idea why the didn't change to open? there is a channel tag set for open status at a value of 20 vs the invited sent at a value of 10.
Is it because I didn't make a smart campaign for open?
