I'm trying to deploy RTP to load a specific offer in the sidebar for certain segments. The problem that I'm having is that My default offer seems to load and show for about 1 second before the RTP offer takes over and gets displayed in the sidebar.
Marketo support says that the issue is with Google Tag Manager.
Have you used RTP with Google Tag Manager? Have you have to load RTP outside of the GTM container? Could the Munchkin still remain in the GTM container?
You'll have to provide a URL and instrux for reproducing the problem.
You can see our default asset in the sidebar on any pages. Here's an example of page:
Make Your Business more competitive by Offering Multiple Payment Methods | Tipalti
You wouldn't be able to reproduce the problem though unless you were in the segment. I can add you if you want to share your email? I think installing the code outside of the GTM container might fix it, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.
You can add sandy@teknkl.com.
I have no great love for GTM (every script loads and executes more reliably outside of GTM) but perhaps there's a way to make this work.
OK - you're in the segment now. It should populate the top asset in sidebar of this page after a second.
Invoice Workflow: Challenges to Invoice Management | Tipalti
I get the 6 Ways to Improve Cash Flow only.
Can you try again and see if you're seeing the offer? You should see a case study after a split second of seeing the other offer. Thanks again for looking at this.
I see only the Cash Flow offer still.
OK. It should work now - we just turned on the segment to include
everybody. I'm still seeing this strange delay in the sidebar. Can you try
one more time on this page?

I see a "what's your cost per invoice" sidebar, and then it quickly changes to a case study (auto suppliers) banner.
@Sanford - we don't have a page with RTP outside of GTM, I'm worried we
might have to do that.
@Dan - great! You saw it. The part that concerns me is that split second
delay between the two graphics

Right, so... set one up to test?
You can use 2 Marketo LPs to do this comparison, as they're completely under your control.
If you can establish that there's a user-facing difference, then we can look into the why. Right now the pages have so many assets (sync and async) it's a very complex task to whittle it down. It could be simply that you're quenching the browser's connection limit and putting too many sync scripts in the way.
Hey Sanford- following up on this thread again. I was able to get the RTP code installed into the header of the page so as to avoid GTM interference.
Would the best bet be to not have a default asset at all in the div and just Marketo serve all assets? Would there be any issues with this if someone has cookies turned off or cross-device issues?
Accounts Payable Fraud Controls | Tipalti
There still does seem to be a little bit of lag, but it seems shorter for me - Is this mainly due to the time it takes to call the Marketo sever, let it process the call, and then respond?
Have you ever seen RTP serve graphics and actually not have that delay?
Me too, I see the transition now, but the comparison to non-GTM would be next to check.
Do you have a page with the RTP tag on its own (not in GTM) for comparison?
I do too.
Hmmm. I guess the segment isn't working. I'll try again. Thanks for looking
into this!
