Need help with welcome email series for opt-in

Here's the breakdown.

  • Customer signs up to opt-in to specific brand's email list.
  • Email 1 would be sent automatically
  • Email 2 would be sent the following day
  • Email 3 would be sent five days later; with email 4 sent 5 days after that.

Anyone have any idea on how to set up a multiple welcome emails when someone opt-ins?  Thanks for any help!

Hi Stephanie,

This can be done with a trigger campaign.  You would have a campaign with a trigger like "Fills Out Form", which would push leads into the flow of the campaign when they filled out whatever form you named.  In the flow of your campaign you would use Send Email flow steps and Wait flow steps.  Just lay them out in the order you want the actions to happen, for instance,

Step 1. Send Email (First Email)

Step2. Wait - 1 day

Step3. Send Email (Second Email)

Step4. Wait - 5 days

Step 5 Send Email (Third Email)

etc

Hi Stephanie,

John's method is simple to implement and will work well but be very careful if you need to add more content in the future. In this case, you may want to consider an engagement program.

Using the Engagement Program approach can certainly work, but those are going to have a much more strict, rigid schedule for when emails are sent. If you use the smart campaign approach, you'll be able to customize it more and specify different wait times between email sends. If the goal is to change the number of days between individual email sends, the smart campaign approach would give you the most control over that timing.

One big tip to watch out for is when changing the flow after leads are already in it. If the leads are already in a wait step, changing the timing for that wait step will not apply to those leads that have already reached it. Changes to wait step timing will only apply to new leads coming in afterwards, so if there are leads that have already gotten to that wait step, changing the timing won't affect them at all. The short version is, make sure you have it set up right the first time and try not to make changes when the leads are already in the flow

Here's an article I wrote with pretty much everything you need to watch out for when using wait steps.

Re: Need help with welcome email series for opt-in

With engagement programs, you will still be able to send emails almost every day, though. So it's still possible to send one email on Tuesdays and another on Thursdays. So, sure, it's lot like "waits", but, from my experience, it's flexible enough and you do not have any trouble changing waits or inserting a new content between 2 existing ones and yet making sure that people who are further in the stream still receive the new content (which is something almost impossible to do with a standard flow).

One key point if you use engagement programs is to pause people who have exhausted content in case you add a content a long time after they have left the program.
