Our internal data quality team is cleaning up the data in our CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) by merging duplicate contacts. Since our CRM is synced to Marketo, it is cleaning up the possible duplicates in Marketo as well.
A duplicate contact was merged in CRM and now we only have 1 contact record in Marketo. Does it choose which record to keep based off of lead score? Or does it pick the contact with the latest activity? Since the contact was automatically removed from Marketo, do we lose visibility into the marketing activity that was taking place within that record?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Marketo will use the same parent record that you selected in CRM when you applied the merge. Any blank values in the record that had values in the other record will be merged so that there aren't any blank values (unless the values were empty in both records). Your activity history will also be merged and left intact in Marketo. So if one contact had 15 lines of activity and the other contact had 10 lines of activity, your merged contact will have 25 lines of activity.
Can't wait for the day when we can merge these in Marketo!

The winning record will be chosen based off of the winner in CRM. So the winning ID in marketo will the the one that has the GUID of the winning one in CRM. All of the record's activity logs will be migrated to the winning record.
