Merge Leads Failure due to Too Long String

I'm getting an error when attempting to merge two leads. It says: STRING_TOO_LONG: Last Interesting Moment Desc . Is there a way to trim the Last Interesting Moment that is auto generated (I didn't set up this to record via a flow step) or a way to tell the merge tool to accept the longer string?
