We are using NEPO for integration and for some reason when a lead is syced from Sugar CRM to Marketo it picks up the country as an alpha numeric code.
Now,
We had 2 contacts that existed in sugar; and 1 lead record exist in marketo; I changed country alpha code (which is another issue we are having) in marketo to country USA; then in sugar this changed corresponding company name to contact name. Which is very strange as I did not make any changes to the Company name or lead info. Anyone having similar issues? Or know what might be causing this?
Hi Tashmeem,
I'm also using the Nepo connector, it could be due to a lot of factors;
> workflows and rules in Sugar
> which fields are mapped through the connector
> having 2 records in Sugar - there is no way of telling the connector which one to sync with when you change something in Marketo
- in this case, to identify the process thats occurred and then the exact problem you first need to identify which contact record marketo synced with, so in Sugar, have you added the field; Marketo Lead ID to the displayed fields in Contact and Lead views? If so, this is the easiest way to tell...
> Once you've identified which Sugar Contact MKTO synced with, go to the drop down options in the Sugar record, and select 'view change log' - hopefully you've got the required fields setup to be tracked and this log will give further insight behind the problem.
It is quite odd that it would change the Company name and Contact Name fields when you haven't made changes to those. The only thing I can thing of is that you'r mapping in the connector might be setup incorrectly, which could allow this scenario to occur if for example;
In Marketo you had the following...
Contact Name = Jo Blogs
Email = jblog@acme.com
Org Name = ACME
Country code = USA
And in Sugar you had...
Contact Name = Jo Blogs
Email = jblog@acme.com
Org Name = ACME
Country code = [blank]
And in the connector mapping you had the following...
Contact Name mapped to Org Name
Org Name mapped to Contact Name
Country code mapped to Country code
Email mapped to Email
You make a change in Marketo so it assumes thats the most up to date data, therefore should override whats in Sugar. It looks for a match based on ID or email, it finds a matched contact and syncs. But if you had the mapping a bit wrong, this could explain the error. Marketo would try and push the Org Name to the Org Name in Sugar, but because the mapping tells it to push it to Contact Name then it would do that instead.
A change in either platform triggers it to sync. So I'm surprised this hasn't been a problem with previous leads and contacts, or has it? Knowing if this is a one off problem or not would also give good insight to isolate the problem...
Hope that helped 😕
Did you get to the bottom of this?
Hi Julia,
Thanks for your email, this issue has not been resolved yet. I'd really
appreciate some help with it.
Thanks,
Tash

Do you have access to the connector setup. No one will be able to help if you can't provide more detail around the field mapping and be able to answer a few questions, like;
Does it happen all the time, or only with certain records?
Does is happen when pushing data from MKTO to Sugar, or the other way, from Sugar to MKTO?
What happens if you try and fix the data in one system, does it revert back to the incorrect data when it syncs again?
etc etc. I'm happy to try and help, but can't without a lot more info.
Have you gone back to the people who built the connector and asked for help?
Hi Julia,
Thanks for your email. We have spoken to the connector people and it
doesn't seem like a NEPO issue.
I am going to forward you to my colleague Deepika, who is also copied here.
She is helping out with the issue and can give you the info you require.
Kind regards,
Tash

ok, you do realise I don't work for Marketo don't you..? I'm just another marketo customer who uses the nepo connector...
Happy to take a look and try and sort it out for you though
Oh wow! No I did not actually! Are you having the same issue?

I've spent the last 12-18 months working with Sugar, Marketo and Nepo to rebuild the connector after we initially integrated and the connector started deleting our data from the CRM. Was a nightmare! So I know the in's and out's of it pretty well now. Has been a loooong road, but we're all set up now and full steam ahead
