Marketo adding "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE" in the subject line

Our company is moving and we are sending an email to let our customers know. The tests seem to work fine in Gmail but when tested in outlook, "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE TEST" is added to the subject line. I tried sending the email to myself and a few coworkers and it still has the "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE" before the subject line. Has anyone else had this issue before?

Re: Marketo adding "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE" in the subject line

I don't think that is Marketo. I expect that your company has some spam filter settings setup that adds it on delivery hence why outlook and not gmail. I'd test it to a personal account off your exchange to Outlook and see what happens. You won't be able to control this from Marketo directly other than to make your email less spammy to not trip up spam filters that your customers might have. There are countless threads and articles on email deliverability, so I won't list all the ways to improve your email to not trip spam filters.

Agree with Chris -- this is usually a spam detection of some sort on the ISP. Take a look at your messaging again just to make sure there's not a lot of spam-worthy key works in there. There's also other products that can test this, Marketo's 250OK was one, not sure they still offer that or not?

Re: Marketo adding "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE" in the subject line

As the others have indicated, this additional verbiage in the Subject Line is being added by your company's Email system.  For your company's specific situation you can have the Marketo IP Addresses whitelisted so that they're always trusted and accepted.  You can review the content and even try using a third party tool to grade the overall "spaminess" of your email including sending reputation.  Marketo does still offer the 250OK tool but it is an added cost to your Marketo subscription and is now called the Deliverability Tools.

Re: Marketo adding "SUSPICIOUS MESSAGE" in the subject line

Thank you, all. It turned out to be our email security app that was adding "SUSPICIOUS..." to the subject line. The system is set up to prevent any impersonation attacks. Since the email was sent through Marketo ( a third party) using the domain name of the company, to the same domain name in the company, it flagged it as suspicious. I appreciate the answers : - )
