Lead Source Defaulting Incorrectly

We've been having issues where our Lead Sources are defaulting incorrectly. In this case, the lead sources are defaulting to a value which our inside sales team owns and not marketing. We've had to set up campaigns to correctly assign lead sources as we import leads. Any ideas where this default setting could be, and how to edit it? I've searched through Marketo and can't seem to find anything, which makes me believe it's an SFDC thing.

Hi Justin,
There is no concept of a default lead source value for importing of leads in Marketo.

For best practice, when you import a list, add a column to the spreadsheet for Lead Source and whatever value you want it to be for that list you are importing.

SFDC does have the concept of default values for fields. Because you are not setting a lead source value in Marketo, when the lead is first pushed to SFDC and created there, since the lead source field is empty, SFDC will apply the default value.

Sure. You have to be a Salesforce admin. Go to Your name -> Setup -> Customize -> Leads -> Fields
Then edit "Lead Source". You there is a checkbox that indicates what the default value is. Change which picklist value is the default.
