Is it possible to change the format of a date type field?

Hello,

I just want to check if this is possible to change the format of a by default date type field?
We are seeing date values that don't match the standard format shown on Marketo developer pages and we wanted to know if it's because field can be customized.

for instance the date of birth SFDC field which has type = date

Nothing on our end that let's you do that. Are the fields you're looking at actually date fields? They might be string fields with date-looking things put in them.
