Is anyone else having difficulty importing lists or with list corruption?

Hi there.  I'm a relatively new user to Marketo.

Late on Friday, I discovered that three lists I previously created (and successfully mailed to) had become corrupted in some way, and all had reduced in size from 50-90%.  I tried to figure out why a list of 200 would reduce to 11.

Giving up, I decided to re-import the exact same lists I'd successfully imported a month earlier.  The lists appeared to be importing correctly (the import preview window showed that the sample records were matching correctly to First Name, Last Name and Email address --- the only three fields I was importing).

When I viewed the resulting list, no email addresses appeared for the records.  I tried manually recreating the CSV files and remporting to Marketo, and this also imported successfully, but without any email addresses.  Marketo is not supposed to support this.

If anyone else is experiencing this challenge, please let me know.  I'm using the same browser from the same computer that I last used to successfully import this same list. (Chrome Version 25.0.1364.160 on Mac OS 10.8.2).  I also retried it on Safari and Firefox with the same results.

I'm still doublechecking on this, but imported a list with 3575 email addresses and only 3250 came in.  Subscribing here, trying to sort out.

Thanks Darby S.  Let me know if the records that did actually import from your list imported with Email addresses showing up correctly in Marketo.

Your issuye may be a different challenge (such as: Marketo will automatically de-duplicate the list for you if you have some records with the same email address; that could result in a reduction in the overall list size).

That's what I was still running down, and yup, dupes R us.  The evenness of the numbers made me question truncation of some sort, but no, just dupes.  Good luck with your import issue.

I solve my problem.  Although Marketo will show the fields correctly mapping in the Import Preview (eg: First Name > First Name,  Last Name > Last Name, Email > Email Address) it will actually NOT import the Email Addresses until the imported CSV file (in my case) has EXACTLY the same text in the Field Headers in the first row of the source data.

In other words, a field/column Labelled "Email" will not import to "Email Address", even if the Marketo Import wizard shows that it is mapped correctly in the import Preview.

You can add additional import alias in the admin section for individual fields.
