Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

Hello,

I'm attempting to add an anonymous smart list for a specific blog post. I have a munchkin code on our companies wordpress blog

This page does not appear in the drop-down auto-suggest and when I past the URL into the filter I recieve an error "Invalid value for Web Page. URL found."

I have accesed this page from my home IP and a device to try and trigger marketo to recognize this page but it has not worked so far.

The other blog posts are being recognized.

Thoughts?

Thank you for your time

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

Can you provide the URL that goes to your blog, but generates the "Invalid Value for Web Page" error when pasted in the Visited Web Page filter?  How long has this page been available?  Is your munchkin code located in your blog's Wordpress page template vs. elsewhere?

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

I'd be curious to hear discussions around this. Recently ran into the same issues (company confidential) for a slightly different scenarion so I can only describe it.
  • Munchkin on the main domain for over a year.
  • Munchkin on the specific page for a month.
Smart campaign is to process a form fill out. Smart list - Fills Out Form, Web Page is:

On web page selection, I couldn't see the webpage so manually added: http://www.domain.com/formpage.html
Got an error in the list selection, so I removed http:// and used www.domain.com/formpage.html -> This was accepted.

However processing the form didn't pickup this page. I want back and added a second form fill out trigger with the http://www.domain.com/formpage.html. I received an error, but let it go and tried filling out the form. It worked with this new trigger.

Anyone else see this?

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

I have seen some strange values appear in the pop-up list of URLs when I enter the first part of valid URLs with munchkin in the Visits Web Page filter.  For example, when I enter "http://www.conductor.com/resource" which is the first part of the URL for many pages on our website, the following are a few of the values displayed in the pop-up list.
  • 55-000.net/index/www.conductor.com/resource-center
  • web.archive.org/web/20110702152741/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center
  • www.conductor.com//resource-center/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center/research/why-2013-year-seoresearch/why-2013-year-seo
  • www.conductor.com//resource-center/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center/research/why-2013-year-seoresearch/why-2013-year-seo
I think this may be related to a caching issue that Marketo tech support acknowledges that has affected the tree view in the left nav bar in Marketo's Marketing Activities tab and possibly picklist field values.  I'll add this to the case that I have open with Marketo tech support.

The munchkin code is in our wordpress template.

Our munchkin code is on our main URL and other properties.

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

Elliot,

The URLs that you showed on your list are actually in some way valid URLs that have been opened and because you have the Munchkin script on them, you get them on the list. All opened for me except for the first one.

In order:
  • 55-000.net/index/www.conductor.com/resource-center (this is the one that did not open form me.)
  • web.archive.org/web/20110702152741/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center : This is a copy of the resource center web page that they have in the Wayback machine archives. Since they cached all the page code, including the munchkin script, you get it in the filter list.
  • www.conductor.com//resource-center/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center/research/why-2013-year-seoresearch/why-2013-year-seo - Conductor.com actually serves that page as a valid URL as if it loaded URL parameters. I think that's probably because some search engines spiders sometimes mess up the URLs when they parse the links, but if your server delivers the page, they index it thus creating a valid URL on the filter.
  • www.conductor.com//resource-center/http://www.conductor.com/resource-center/research/why-2013-year-seoresearch/why-2013-year-seo - Same as the previous one.
With that being said, I am curious about Sean's page. I looked at the code and everything looks in order. He should not be getting an error unless he was setting the filter incorrectly and it looks like he is doing it right. I think it's time to call Marketo support.

Sean, try using 'contains' using this string instead, "the-over-and-under-on-himss-13", and see what happens.

Good luck!

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

Hey Sean-
As you can see from Elliot's reply, there are many ways that a URL can be wrapped by other services breaking the logic in your campaign. In order to combat the unknown, when I use something what you're requesting, I use "URL CONTAINS" as the modifier, and then include only the base of the URL... ie getresultsinaction.com/the-over-and-under-on-himss-13/  This way if there's a problem with a service putting something on the front (or marketo tracking on the back) you'll still see the results. And the added benefit of it not requiring Marketo to detect the URL in order to activate the campaign.

Re: Invalid value for Web Page. URL not found

Elliot and Adam,

Thank you for your time and insight.

I did change the filter to "CONTAINS" as the modifier and I do not get the error, but the page doesn't list any leads.

I checked the analytics of the link (it was socialized) and it has registered clicks, but the list doesn't show any leads.

Sean, I would escalate this to Marketo tech support.  If you get a resolution, please update this discussion.

Has anyone heard back on this? Just ran into it as well.
