Imported Leads never merged automatically?

Hello,

We exported some leads from SFDC and imported the list to Marketo first, then synced SFDC and Marketo including those exported-imported leads.
We thought those leads could be recognized as the same one and just updated some status if there're any differences, but actually, Marketo just created duplicates.
I wonder if there any way to avoid creating new duplicates leads, when sync them after imported leads from SFDC.

Thank you,

Marketo de-duplicates based on email address. What was the List Import Mode?

It is important to highlight while Marketo de-duplicates leads originating from SOAP API, Munchkin JavaScript API and List Import, it accepts all incoming leads and contacts from SFDC.

I would suggest reviewing "Created" and the source fields to understand the time line.

Re: Imported Leads never merged automatically?

Hello bgome,

Thanks again to help me.

I am not sure what was the List Import Mode, but probably was "Normal".
We imported four leads and those leads were created in Marketo at 8:30 p.m.. We got some duplicates leads at 9:00 p.m when we started sync SFDC and Marketo. The leads made from imported list has "List Import" value on Original Source Type and Registration Source Type fields while the leads we got from SFDC has "salesforce.com" on the same fields.
I think that is the answer: "it accepts all incoming leads and contacts from SFDC." Doesn't it mean leads from SFDC never be merged with the leads from import list automatically?

Could you tell me what will happen if I sync Marketo and SFDC again AFTER merging two duplicates lead manually? I hope this lead will be recognized as the same lead as one we got by SFDC sync if that lead keeps "salesforce.com" value on Original Source Type and Registration Source Type, and also keeps SFDC ID, and won't created duplicates on SFDC again.

Hope to hear from you again soon,

Thank you,

Akiko

Re: Imported Leads never merged automatically?

Hi Akiko,

There is subtle and important detail helping us: "We imported four leads and those leads were created in Marketo at 8:30 p.m.. We got some duplicates leads at 9:00 p.m when we started sync SFDC and Marketo."

When a new lead enters Marketo from
- a form fillout
- SOAP or Munchkin API call, or
- List Import

Marketo automatically searches for a lead with the same email address.  If that lead exists, the existing lead is updated instead of creating a duplicate.

If you add a new lead directly into Salesforce (through the Salesforce import process or web-to-lead forms) Salesforce will create a duplicate lead that gets synced into Marketo. When this happens, you can use Marketo to find and fix those duplicates. The normal sync follows a similar logic.

Please let me know the instance name and few sample leads. In alternative I can troubleshoot through a Suport Case to keep the details away from wide visibility.

Hi bgomes,

Thank you again for your help.
I understand when Marketo avoid creating duplicates.

Could you tell me how I could fix those duplicates correctly, in order to sync back to Salesforce again.
We tried to merge those duplicates but some leads keep "salesforce.com" value on Original Source Type and Registration Source Type and SFDC ID while Some leads don't.
I don't know what is the term.

I draw some pictures since I am not good at discribing things in English.
Hope you could understand what I want to know and answer the questions.

Unfortunately, I suppose it is a bit difficult, as we use many Japanese character in Leads Data and Fields. and I don't know what kind of information to share with. Leads Name on our Lead Database for example?

I hope to hear from you again soon.

Thank you so much,

Best Regards,

Akiko
