Six months ago, I inherited a well set-up Marketo instance (lucky me!). Now I would like to remove/rename the former Marketo administrator (no longer with company) whose name is everywhere and associated with what seems like everything. Will there be a data impact (Marketo and or salesforce.com) if I rename the former Marketo Administrator to something more generic?
I wouldn't remove the admin, but rather just re-set the user. If the person isn't there any more, you can send a password re-set (hopefully this was already done) to their no longer valid email. No need to change the PW. Then you can change the user to a regular user. That way you don't lose any historical information.

Hi Cathy,
You can even delete the user, nothing will happen
Usually, it's not recommended and in listed company it's even illegal (Sarbanes Oxley law) to reuse someone else login.
So you should rather just create a new admin (you), then log in with that new admin and delete the previous one.
You will also have to inform support that the previous admin has left and that you are the new support contacts Manager.

P.s. Be aware of changes to email domain names. Especially for admins it caused us some headaches with access and support.
