We’re putting a custom filter on our SFDC-Marketo sync to keep certain records from syncing to Marketo that we still need in SFDC. Once we activate the filter, what’s the best way to identify and delete those leads from Marketo? Can we use the “SFDC is Deleted” field to identify them? Because even though they’ll technically still be in SFDC, will Marketo think they're deleted if it can't see them?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Emily,
Best practice is to create the custom field you'll be using as a filter, and then mark all of your records the way you want. Then let all of that sync between the two systems before the filter is enabled. Once it is, you'll be able to use that custom field in a smart list to find all records in Marketo with the value you don't want, and delete them. Then they won't be able to sync back from SFDC, and you'll be all set.

Hello Emily Rennie!
John Clark is right. Use the SFDC Type field (is not empty. or specify contact/lead) to find leads that came from SFDC and combine it with your sync filter field (eg. Sync to marketo=false) to identify the ones that had synced previously and you no longer wish to keep in Marketo
Thanks so much to both of you for the speedy replies. It makes complete sense (slapping forehead).
Thanks!
