First and last name fields populating as blank

We have a blog sign up form which just has an email field. When a lead signs up to receive blog updates, the First and Last Name fields in Marketo are being populated with blank. 

This poses an issue in the lead record because the the name is now Blank Blank in both SFDC/Marketo. And the token greeting in email will now say - Hi blank.

Shouldn't the field just be left empty or null if there is no data? When an exisiting lead signs up, the email address is matched and the correct first/last name populates the fields. How can I leave empty for a new lead?

Do you have another campaign that is changing the name? 

You can always add two change data value filters in your flow steps to change the First and Last Name to NULL. This will leave the field blank.

Can you provide a screenshot of the Activity Log for one these Leads?

You probably have the First and Last name set up to populate with "Blank" in the Salesforce intergration options in the Admin menu.

You can edit the default First and Last Name fields under Admin -> Integration -> Salesforce -> Click Edit on Sync Options.
