Contacts imported before sync with database

Hi there,

What will happen if I import a list of contacts before Marketo is sync with our DB but some of those contacts are already part of our DB ?

How the sync will occur ? Will Marketo create duplicate IDs? Will it sync the contacts that have been uploaded previously and keep their past activities ? What can happen?

By "database" do you mean SFDC or Dynamics, using the native connector?
