Re: can we send the same content in default program of engagement program?

So, we tested this and you can set up a default program to resend the same email. Using wait steps, you can have a 30 day gap in between each email send.

However, there are several things to consider here. First and foremost, should you be resending the exact same email? If someone didn't open your email the first time, why would they open it the second time? And the third?

Assuming you are set on resending the same email, there are some other considerations to take into account:

  • By using the same email, how will you know for sure which one actually gets opened?
  • Are you using email opens to determine if another email should be sent? Many email clients will block images from downloading, which prevents Marketo from tracking an email open, even if the recipient has read the email.
  • What other content are they receiving? Assuming there's more content in your stream(s), they may be receiving nurture emails on top of the resent emails

And to Katja's point, there are several cases in which an engagement program will prevent leads from receiving the same email. See the documentation here . For these reasons, we would recommend using different emails or at least cloned emails.

Re: can we send the same content in default program of engagement program?

Hi Sheela,

The Marketo Engagement Program is actually designed to avoid that exact scenario. The Engagement Program will remember it already sent the person to that program and will not do so again. Even if a person was made member of your content program through other means than the Engagement Program this will be recognized and the content will not be served a second time.

Kind regards,

Katja

Re: can we send the same content in default program of engagement program?

Totally agree.

In addition, the nested Default program you have for sending out the original email can also contain a separate smart campaign sending it again under certain filter conditions after a set period of time. This will however not be counted as an Engagement Program cast, so they might be receiving other content from that flow more or less at the same time.

The main question remains why you would want to send the same email again, for all the reasons mentioned.
