Best practice around HR leads

We get a number of HR leads in our system (people who entered through our careers page, and are interested in our job postings). These people often end up filling out a form to learn more information about us.

What's the best practice for managing these leads?

A couple options I'm considering:
  • Tag them as "Unqualified" and leave them as leads
  • Convert them and associate them to an HR Pool account
  • Ignore them – let the sales reps filter them out (not ideal)
Any other thoughts? Would love to hear how others manage these situations.

Hi Carolyn- We are new to Marketo and hoping there is a way to leverage Marketo capabilities so that we can use it as an Applicant Tracking System for HR & Recruiting. Rich, I appreciated his response and am hoping others will reply with ideas in this realm.

Carolyn,
We handle this via the Lead Status and Lead Status Detail field.  The Lead Status picklist contains choices for Never a Buyer and AdvocateNever a Buyer status would be for leads who should not receive any of our marketing communications and are subsequently flagged as Marketing Suspended.  The HR leads you mention would be slotted here in your scenario.  We automate this via a Reason for Request field on our Contact Us form.  Advocates would still receive marketing communication but their score does not increment and they will never be put in front of a sales rep.  The Lead Status Detail further stratifies the selection.

Here are the Lead Status and associated Lead Status Detail choices we use:
  • Never A Buyer
    • Junk
    • Competitor
    • Other
  • Acvocate
    • Analyst
    • Influencer
    • Consultant
    • Employee
Regards,
Rich
