Automate Channel Steps?

Is there any way to automate channel steps?? 

I have channels set up with steps identical to these.

Right now my coworkers are setting up smart campaigns manually for EVERY program to control how people flow through these steps. 

Is there a way to do this globally. For example have a smart program that says "If a user views and email for an email channel program, change the status to viewed.

This type of functionality would cut out about 5-8 smart campaigns on a program-by-program basis for my company. It would save us TONS of time.

The easier way is to setup Program Templates and a guide so that everyone knows what defines each Status for each type of Program. But you must have separate flows for each status. Cloning a template and then updating these flows is the best way so far.
