Are leads deduped when coming from Salesforce?

Say I have Lead A in Salesforce.

Then Lead A fills out an advertising form (with the same email address) that creates a lead in Salesforce.

1)  will the new lead form create a second lead in Salesforce? Or will it be deduped.

2)  If a second lead is created in Salesforce will a second lead be created in Marketo?

Re: Are leads deduped when coming from Salesforce?

Hi Jamie -

1) You said you have Lead A in SFDC.  Is it also in Marketo?  Is the new lead form a Marketo form that pushes into SFDC?  Or is it one of those SFDC click-to-lead forms that creates leads directly into SDFC?

-If it is the former - and Lead A is in Both Marketo and SFDC, and the form is a Marketo form - it will be de-duped.  Marketo is smart enough to recognize.
-If it is the latter - and Lead A is in Both Marketo and SFDC, and the form is a SDFC click-to-lead form - it depends on your SFDC rules.  SFDC doesn't naturally de-dupe, but perhaps someone at your company as implemented a de-dupe 3rd party app or process.

2) Yes.   Marketo views SFDC as it Boss. If there are dupes in SFDC, Marketo will be like "Okay, Boss. I'll create a dupe in here too."

Re: Are leads deduped when coming from Salesforce?

Hi Jamie,

The only way to have a connection between records in Marketo and Salesforce is for one system to introduce them to the other.  If a record exists in Salesforce, but not Marketo, and a record is created in Marketo with the same email address and then synced to Salesforce, then it's going to create a new record and there will be duplicates.  The article below has all of the information on how de-duplication works.

Deduplication: How It Works, and When It Doesn't
