Adobe is migrating all Marketo Engage subscriptions and users to the Adobe Identity Management System (IMS). Read through this blog to understand what Adobe IMS is, why it’s important to migrate, what the typical timeline for migration is, and what resources are available to support you in your migration journey.

What is Adobe IMS migration?

Adobe is enhancing how you manage your Adobe Marketo Engage subscriptions and users, bringing increased productivity to you and your organization. By migrating to the Adobe IMS, your Marketo Engage instance will now be on the Adobe Experience Cloud Interface, sharing the same navigation look and feel of Adobe Experience Cloud applications and services.

Why are we asking customers to migrate to Adobe IMS?

Adobe is continually investing in its IMS architecture as part of its broader Experience Cloud vision. Moving to Adobe IMS ensures that Marketo customers are aligned with future developments and can benefit from upcoming innovations like AI-powered marketing insights and deeper data integrations.

Additionally, by migrating to Adobe IMS, you can:

  1. Unlock new features and innovations within Marketo Engage, such as the new Email Designer and the new Landing Page and Forms Designers.
  2. Expand your strategy to support buying groups.
  3. Have one convenient place and a consistent user experience when signing on to Creative Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Document Cloud apps.
  4. Get improved security and authentication by accessing Adobe standardized processes.
  5. Utilize Adobe Privacy Service, which is only available when on Admin console. To deliver better customer experiences, you must collect and store your customers’ personal data. When using this data, it is important to understand and respect your customers’ privacy. New legal and organizational regulations are giving users the right to access or delete their personal data from your data stores upon request.
  6. Access one central place for support, community, and training resources.

When did we start the Adobe IMS migration?

All new Adobe Marketo Engage subscriptions (July 31, 2023 or later) come integrated with the Adobe IMS.

Existing Marketo Engage subscriptions are currently being migrated to the Adobe IMS upon any sales event, which includes renewals, re-contracting events, and/or addendums. Migrations outside of a sales event are now supported as of October 2024.

Typical migration timeline

Typical user migrations occur 30 days after a subscription migration to Admin console.

There are two strategies:

  • Self-service migration – Marketo Engage admin has steps to take. Our ask is that they get it done in 30 days, but time will vary based on each Marketo Engage admin.
  • Auto-migration – Typically complete on their user migration day (within a couple hours).

Here’s a general timeline of what you can expect:
