Important Notes:

  • No Disruption to Current Work: Your existing email editor will continue to work as usual. The new editor will run in parallel with the existing editor
  • New Editor Requires IMS Migration: To access the new editor, your Marketo instance needs to be migrated to IMS (Identity Management System).
  • Old and New Editors are Separate: Emails created in the old editor will remain there. To use the new editor's features, you'll need to create new emails or import existing ones.

Hello Nation,

Let's discuss the new email editor that we are bringing into Marketo Engage and some its key features. Watch the 5-minute voiceover or read a summary below!

New experience for Email

With new editor you can simply drag and drop components, add different content types (like image, text, buttons, HTML etc). Select any section and edit inline for quick updates

Style your content with no code

Modify the look and feel of any section through the Styles tab. For example, adjust a button’s colors, padding, and font with just a few clicks.

OOTB Templates

You can start creating a new email by starting from scratch or importing HTML or select from out of the box templates or pre-created templates

This is such a great overview, @Sreekanth_Reddy! Having only seen the odd screenshot from Summit earlier this year, it's awesome to see more of the tool in play.

A couple of questions:

  1. We use existing templates for our emails; is it safe to assume that they won't work in the new editor?
  2. If so, do we need to create templates in/with the new editor so that all the sections/modules correspond to how we want things to look?
  3. Is there a date/timeframe when this will be available in our instances?

Thanks in advance,

Michelle 😊

  1. We use existing templates for our emails; is it safe to assume they won't work in the new editor?
    >> Yes, wont work that way but you can always import template HTML into new editor and make necessary tweaks. We are also working on a way to easily migrate templates from old editor to new
  2. If so, do we need to create templates in/with the new editor so that all the sections/modules correspond to how we want things to look?
    >> same as above
  3. Is there a date/timeframe when this will be available in our instances?
    >> To all customers who have migrated to IMS will get it by end Jan 2025

I am happy to see a modern email editor, but there is still something I want to understand.

  1. Is the way we code email now, with an external HTML code editor with all the Marketo language and our HTML that we optimized for many years now, done with the new email editor?
  2. When you say we can import our HTML, does it mean we must strip down all the Marketo language? If so, how will the editor manage the modules, moving them up or down, deleting or duplicating them?
  3. To use the new email editor as best, do we have to rely on HTML generated by the editor, or do we still have control over the code we want to use?

Thank you for the clarification,

Eric

Hey @Eric_Vaillancou

  1. Is the way we code email now, with an external HTML code editor with all the Marketo language and our HTML that we optimized for many years now, done with the new email editor?
    >> You can import the HTML directly and use it here but we will be bringing new scripting language called Handlebars

  2. When you say we can import our HTML, does it mean we must strip down all the Marketo language? If so, how will the editor manage the modules, moving them up or down, deleting or duplicating them?
    >> There is a converter option during HTML import to new editor format too that will automatically convert the HTML into new editor content

  3. To use the new email editor as best, do we have to rely on HTML generated by the editor, or do we still have control over the code we want to use?
    >> HTML generated by the editor is best

Hi Sreekanth,

Thank you for your answer! I have a few more questions:

  1. Is there developer documentation ready for the new scripting language?
  2. Are the clients aware their templates will not work anymore? I presume they will still be able to use them as they are for some time.
  3. Can we assume our clients will return to us asking for help converting their templates and making necessary adjustments?

Thanks again for your clarifications

  1. Is there developer documentation ready for the new scripting language?
    >> this is the same scripting language implemented in other Adobe products like AJO, here is the link - https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/journey-optimizer/using/content-management/personalizatio...
  2. Are the clients aware their templates will not work anymore? I presume they will still be able to use them as they are for some time.
    >> As I said old editor will continue to work in 2025, so customers can continue to use their templates but we will encourage all customers to start migrating to the new editor
  3. Can we assume our clients will return to us asking for help converting their templates and making necessary adjustments?
    >> we are planning for some easy way to migrate from old editor to new editor, something like migration tool but little early stages right now
